The top is lowered and smoothed. You can use a broom to lightly score the top for texture. Leave the boards in place for a week until dry. Use repair mortar in a caulking tube to fill small cracks, forcing it into the crack to seal it and prevent water from seeping into the concrete.

The tip of the caulking tube will smooth the repair mortar a little; the rest of the smoothing can be done with your finger. Step 4b Remove the concrete patching compound using a margin trowel or putty knife. Step 5b Spread and texture the concrete patch to match the surrounding concrete. Sikadur Concrete Fix is a two-part epoxy adhesive and filler that can be used as a bonding bridge adhesive paste for concrete and most building materials.

With any concrete repair, take this lesson to heart and you'll be off to a good start. First find out what has caused the damage, do the necessary preparation to remove unusable concrete and contamination, and then install a repair designed to solve the problem. The worst thing you can do is make a repair that won't last. Someone once told me that more than 50 percent of concrete repairs fail again within two years.

That is not a track record that inspires confidence. The patching mix is made of vinyl, Portland cement and sand. It covers cracks up to 1⁄2 inch wide. Dampen the area around the crack and apply the mixture with a trowel.

Smooth the surface with a trowel or small trowel. Non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques include radar, infrared thermography and impact echo, and can reveal much without having to open up the concrete. Use a trowel to apply the fixed concrete to the prepared substrate and smooth it into the crack or to shape it into the desired form. To restore chipped, cracked and spalled driveways, walkways, slabs and steps, use Sakrete Top 'N Bond Concrete Patcher and Flo-Coat.

After the patch has cured, use a concrete sealer to prevent water from entering the patch and re-damaging the same spot. Unsightly cracks in concrete not only detract from the appearance of a garage or patio, but can also lead to more problems as moisture seeps into the concrete. Step 8a Smooth the surface of the patch so that it is level with the surrounding concrete (avoid adding water to the surface of the patch). The top of the form boards should be level with the top edges of the adjacent concrete surface, as well as with what will be the new repaired surface.

Most of today's repair materials are polymer-modified concretes, which means that the basic material is a mixture of Portland cement and aggregate to which a polymer (usually latex) is added. Special concretes are very easy to use and have different characteristics, such as fast initial or final setting time, high initial or final strength, or increased resistance to cracking and spalling. Mapecem 100 is a cost-effective cementitious mortar that is ideal for a multitude of applications, including floor resurfacing; levelling low floor areas; filling trenches, voids and honeycombs; and treating concrete defects. Vinyl Concrete Patcher or packaged concrete can be used; the former, however, will adhere more readily to existing concrete.

Concrete fix can be applied to both dry and wet surfaces, but standing water in voids, pits or pores must be removed prior to application. Wet cured concrete will be approximately 50% stronger than concrete exposed to dry air.
